NFL Betting: What Will Be the Highest-Scoring Game of the Divisional Round?

Subscribe to our newsletter

Four of numberFire's top five offenses are gearing up for Divisional Round games. After four of six Wild Card games had totals under 45, three of the four Divisional matchups have totals over 45. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds are certainly suggesting some high-scoring games for the upcoming four-game weekend.

It could be worth diving into which game will produce the most points -- especially with FanDuel's NFL special odds for which Divisional Round game will have the highest score. So, what's the verdict? Which game is bound to light up the scoreboard?

Divisional Round Betting

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers (+170)

The Green Bay Packers against the San Francisco 49ers is the favorite to lead the weekend in scoring. As you probably guessed, this matchup features the best pair of offenses in the Divisional Round; the 49ers have numberFire's top offense while the Packers rank fifth. Additionally, this matchup carries the largest total of the week at 50.5.

One could argue Green Bay's offense is just as dangerous considering their recent hot streak. The Packers have totaled over 30 points in four of the last five games and come off a 48-point explosion against the Dallas Cowboys. Jordan Love is playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the league with 0.30 expected points added per dropback (EPA/DB) since Week 12, and he posted a jaw-dropping 1.05 EPA/DB in the Wild Card Round.

Of course, the 49ers feature an exceptional defense with numberFire's eighth-best unit. With the fifth-best schedule-adjusted passing defense, Love may finally meet his match. Don't overlook the defense that Love just torched, though. The Cowboys still have the ninth-best defense and eighth-best pass defense.

San Francisco's offense seems poised for a big day, as Green Bay has the 10th-worst defense rating, per numberFire. Christian McCaffrey and the run game could especially get going with the Packers holding the sixth-worst run defense. Backing the Niners' run game could yield success for FanDuel's No Sweat Same Game Parlay for any NFL playoff game taking place on Saturday.

The Packers-49ers recording the most points certainly has the support, but it could come down to how Love and Co. fare against one of the league's top defenses.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions (+210)

Sunday's first game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions could end up being a duel through the air. Both defenses' weakness has been slowing the pass. The Bucs have the 3rd-best adjusted run defense and 12th-worst schedule-adjusted pass defense, and the Lions hold the 8th-best run defense and 3rd-worst pass defense.

The recent play of both quarterbacks -- Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff -- only further points to a lot of points with their favorable matchups. Mayfield has posted 0.10 EPA/DB over the last month, including his 0.29 EPA/DB in the Wild Card Round. Goff has 0.22 EPA/DB in his last four games and posted 0.42 EPA/DB last week.

Both QBs are also favorable picks to lead the Divisional Round matchups in passing yards. Considering the matchups for each signal-caller, this is my favorite bet to lead the Divisional weekend in points. I'm not sure if the Packers will stay hot against the 49ers, for San Francisco has given up 20 points on only three occasions since Week 10.

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills (+350)

The top matchup of the weekend could be the Kansas City Chiefs visiting the Buffalo Bills. These teams have history, as this will be the third matchup between the two in the postseason since 2020, and this has the smallest spread of the weekend with the Bills listed as 2.5-point favorites.

The quarterback matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen could be enough reason for some to take this game for the most points. While we have seen some young QBs rising up the ranks -- such as Love and C.J. Stroud -- Mahomes and Allen are still some of the best QBs in football.

However, I have a hard time seeing the Chiefs-Bills totaling the most points when looking at both defenses. Kansas City's defense has led the way for most of the season with numberFire's fourth-best defense and second-best pass defense. Opponents are averaging only 14.6 points over the last five games against the Chiefs. Buffalo's unit has been just as good, for they have numberFire's sixth-best defense and have held the last six opponents to only 16.8 PPG.

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens (+460)

The Houston Texans against the Baltimore Ravens have the longest odds to score the most combined points this weekend. Much of this is a credit to Baltimore's outstanding defense, which leads numberFire's rankings.

Houston's strength on offense has been the air attack led by Stroud; they have the fourth-worst adjusted run offense and eighth-best schedule-adjusted pass offense. The Ravens boast the top pass defense in the league while giving up the fewest passing yards per attempt.

The same idea applies to the other side of the ball with Baltimore holding the fourth-best run offense while totaling the most carries and rushing yards per game. The Texans could have the answer with the second-best run defense and second-best run stuff rate, per ESPN.

With both offenses drawing challenging matchups, this could be the lowest-scoring game of the weekend as the 43.5 total suggests.
