NBA Betting Picks and Player Props to Target: Saturday 2/24/24

The 82-game NBA regular season offers us a wide variety of betting options, including point spreads, moneylines, and totals. The Association features 1,230 regular season games, which can make sifting through the odds an overwhelming task.
However, various advanced statistics can help narrow the choices. numberFire's NBA power rankings and daily projections paired with advanced stats from the NBA can help give the inside track to winning big.
Our favorite picks are to come, but don't forget to check out FanDuel's Parlay Hub for other trending bets for all sports -- including basketball.

NBA Best Bets
Orlando Magic at Detroit Pistons
Pistons +8 (-110)
The Detroit Pistons stink, but there is still a reason to bet them catching eight in the 313 this evening.
These larger numbers can be especially appealing against so-so offenses, and the Orlando Magic still qualify. Over the last 15 games, Orlando has just a 116.3 offensive rating (14th-worst in the NBA), leading to just a +1.3 net rating overall. Detroit's -4.4 net rating in the same period shows they should be able to compete.
In these splits this evening, the gap gets even tighter. Detroit has a -3.3 net rating at home during this same period, and Orlando's road net rating -- predictably -- drops away from Amway Center to +0.5.
Betting on bad teams isn't the most glamorous position, but numberFire's model expects Detroit to cover 53.8% of the time. There's a bit of value in fading the public here.
Boston Celtics at New York Knicks
Donte DiVincenzo Over 4.5 Rebounds (+130)
The M*A*S*H* unit New York Knicks are getting just 6.5 points at home against the league-best Boston Celtics. It's an odd betting line, so I dipped to a prop showing a boatload of value.
Donte DiVincenzo is a stat-stuffer at the two guard spot for New York, and he's in a modest spot to collect boards even if scoring on the C's should prove to be difficult. Boston has allowed the eighth-most rebounds per game to shooting guards over every team's respective last 15 games (6.6).
DiVincenzo averages 4.1 rebounds per 36 minutes with the Knicks' long-term frontcourt injuries off the floor, and he's posted at least five rebounds in five of his last seven games where he's exceeded his normal 38 minutes of court time.
FanDuel Research's NBA projections expect 5.1 boards from DiVincenzo at a median in this game, so I'll absolutely take the plus money that he can snag at least five. Some of the Knicks' recent lopsided contests have suppressed Donte's rebounding totals lately, but a tight game should help him get there.
Brooklyn Nets at Minnesota Timberwolves
Nets Team Total Under 104.5 (-105)
Mike Conley Over 9.5 Points (-113)
While I could join 61% of the bets and 72% of the handle at FanDuel Sportsbook supporting the Minnesota Timberwolves' spread, I'll pass on boarding a sinking communal ship at this peculiar number.
At the end of the day, the Brooklyn Nets should struggle to score tonight, and their team-total line eliminates any risk of the young defense having an off night. Minnesota's defense has a 107.7 rating over their last 15 games (best in the NBA), and Brooklyn has waffled to a 112.4 offensive rating (eighth-worst in the NBA) in the same period.
These are also bottom-10 teams in terms of pace over their last 15 contests. numberFire's model expects just 101.8 points from the Nets at a median in this one, which gives a few points of cushion to their team total.
As an added bonus, the Nets' up-and-down resistance could provide a decent scoring environment for T-Wolves point guard Mike Conley. Brooklyn has coughed up the fifth-most points per game to point guards (26.1) over their last 15.
While the veteran's minutes have been a bit all over the place, he's posted 0.33 points per minute in February. numberFire forecasts him for 0.35 tonight (and 9.6 total) in 27.6 minutes of court time, but I expect he'd inch closer to 30 if this game holds true to an eight-point spread.
I'll roll the dice in such a sublime matchup when not many casual bettors are likely taking this over; Conley has scored double-digit points in just two of his nine February contests.
