Guardians Moneyline (+102)

Two of the best teams in MLB are set to meet for the first time in 2024. The Cleveland Guardians (49-26) will visit the Baltimore Orioles (49-28), and it might be worthwhile to back the road team tonight.

Tanner Bibee will be on the bump for Cleveland. After finishing as the runner-up in last year's AL Rookie of the Year voting, Bibee has played a key role in Cleveland's success during his sophomore season.

He comes in with a 3.65 ERA, 3.19 xFIP (11th-best in MLB), 3.08 SIERA (9th), and 29.4% K% (8th). Although Baltimore has a great lineup and is generating a .252 BA (7th), .311 OBP (15th), and .461 SLG (1st) against right-handed pitchers, I still like Cleveland in this spot.

Notably, Bibee owns a 2.84 ERA on the road, and the Guardians are 12-3 when he takes the mound, providing an average of just 1.6 runs on offense in those three losses. Past Bibee, the Guardians tout the best bullpen in baseball, leading the league in ERA, xFIP, WHIP, SIERA, and win probability added.

The O's look primed to have an uncharacteristically quiet night at the plate, and Cleveland's offense could prove enough run support to usurp control of the AL standings from the New York Yankees.

Cade Povich will get the ball for Baltimore, marking his fourth start in the majors. Through 16 IP, Povich has allowed 11 hits, 9 walks, and 7 earned runs. He's been stamped with a 6.14 xFIP and 6.03 SIERA in this span, which might not hold up well against a legit Cleveland lineup.

The Guardians are producing a .333 OBP (5th), .424 SLG (8th), and 117 wRC+ (7th) versus left-handed pitchers. Steven Kwan has been remarkable since returning from the IL and Jose Ramirez and David Fry also boast awesome splits against lefties.

With all this in mind, I think the Guardians should be entering tonight's contest as the slight favorite, so I'm happy to side with these +102 odds.

Steven Kwan To Record 2+ Total Bases (+115)

Cleveland's leadoff hitter has been raking this season and looks to be undervalued in this market.

Kwan has recorded at least two bases in 59.2% of games (29 out of 49 contests) while these +115 odds imply just a 46.5% probability.

Since returning from the IL, he has notched at least two bases in 13 out of 17 games.

This season, he has gone 25-for-59 (.424 BA) at the plate against lefties and is striking out at a mere 7.8% rate versus this handedness. We don't have a voluminous major-league sample for Povich, but we do know this rookie pitcher could be vulnerable tonight.

I'll happily back these +115 odds considering Kwan has cleared this prop at a 76.5% rate this month.
