MLB SGP Bets

Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Guardians

Carlos Carrasco Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-148)
Orioles Moneyline (-112)
Anthony Santander to Record an RBI (+110)

Combined Odds: +478

Starting with the Cleveland Guardians' starter, Carlos Carrasco looks bound to surpass his 3.5 strikeout total. He's totaled 11 Ks over his last two contests and has gone over 3.5 strikeouts in four of his previous five appearances.

While the Baltimore Orioles have the 11th-lowest strikeout percentage (K%) on the season, this has been on the climb over the last 30 days (15th-highest during the span).

Carrasco's top strikeout pitch is his slider (29.0 K%), and Baltimore is outside the top 10 in runs above average when facing this pitch. The O's are in the top 10 of this category against many pitches, including fastballs, cutters, sinkers, curveballs, and changeups. Baltimore boasts the third-most runs scored in MLB; holding any pitch with less run production from the Orioles is a big deal.

With that said, Carrasco is in a good spot to go over his strikeout prop.

Continuing with our parlay, I like the Orioles to still come up with the win tonight. A big part of this is an advantage in pitching. Carrasco may have strikeout success, but he holds a 5.68 ERA and 1.40 WHIP this season.

Despite carrying a 4.23 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 4.13 xFIP, his numbers have still not improved. In fact, it's only gotten worse with a 6.84 ERA and opponents batting .301 over five starts in July.

This spells huge trouble against a team that holds the second-highest wOBA in the majors.

Dean Kremer -- who will make his 15th start for the O's tonight -- has also posted a 3.38 ERA over his previous three appearances. Cleveland has the 3rd-fewest runs above average against cutters and the 16th-fewer versus four-seam fastballs -- Kremer's two most-used tools.

Baltimore should have the better starter tonight, vaulting them to a win.

Rounding out our three-leg parlay, Anthony Santander is looking to add to his three-game streak with at least one RBI.

His +110 line to drive in a run feels like a steal considering recent production as he's knocked in six runs over his previous five contests. Facing a righty helps his case, for 56 of Santander's 74 ribbies have come against right-handed hurlers.

Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers

Red Sox Over 5.5 Runs (+138)
Over 1st Inning 0.5 Runs (-120)
Masataka Yoshida to Record an RBI (+150)

Combined Odds: +459

For the Boston Red Sox against the Texas Rangers, I'm hanging my hat on Boston's bats to get going.

The Red Sox have averaged only 4.5 runs per game over their last two games after erupting for 14 runs on July 29th. They have an excellent opportunity to get back to rolling tonight.

Jose Urena, who will start for the Rangers on Friday, initially looks like a problem with his 3.07 ERA. However, he's primarily been a reliever, making 19 of his 25 appearances from the bullpen. A regression also seems imminent with Urena carrying a 4.46 SIERA and 4.35 xFIP.

Adding to the evidence, Boston has the second-highest slugging percentage (SLG), fourth-highest isolated power (ISO), and eighth-highest home run percentage. Meanwhile, Urena is in the bottom 26% in average exit velocity and bottom 33% of hard-hit percentage, and he's given up a homer in his last five starts.

As a reliever, a brief start is not out of question for Urena, and this could lead to even more runs with Texas holding the fourth-highest bullpen ERA.

The Red Sox going over 5.5 runs pairs nicely with a YRFI. Both of these squads are in the top six of YRFI rates with the Rangers holding the fifth-highest mark followed by Boston at sixth.

We've went over the Sox's chances of scoring against Urena, but what about Texas? Boston will start Kutter Crawford. He boasts an exceptional NRFI rate of 72.7% this season, but that's slipped over his last nine contests.

Crawford has a NRFI rate of only 44.4% during the stretch, and he's given up a run in the first inning in his last two outings.

Masataka Yoshida is worth circling in the Sox's batting order. He rounded into form in July, carrying a slash line of .333/.411/.487. This included 19 ribbies -- tied for the 13th-most RBIs among batters over the last 30 days.

His stats skyrocket against right-handed hurlers with a slash line of .318/.387/.424 versus .175/.273/.316 when facing southpaws. Yoshida has recorded 24 of his 33 ribbies againt righties, making Urena an excellent matchup. The second-year big leaguer is also hitting .346 and .278 against Urena's top two pitches -- sinkers and sliders.

Yoshida has logged eight RBIs over his previous five. Getting +150 odds for an RBI is too good to pass up.
