MLB Player Props

Justin Steele Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+126)

Justin Steele will pitch on the road against the Cincinnati Reds today. The matchup has some positives and negatives as far as Steele is concerned.

On the negative, it's in hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. On the bright side, the Reds own the 11th-highest strikeout rate against lefties (22.4%) with the 12th-lowest wOBA (.306) in the split. Cincy is also in a serious funk of late, posting the fourth-worst wOBA (.276) over the past 14 days along with the 5th-highest K rate in that time (25.4%).

In my eyes, the positives outweigh the negatives, and I think Steele can get to six punchouts in this one.

Steele isn't showing the same strikeout juice as last year, but he's still got a 23.1% K rate and 10.1% swinging-strike rate. The workload is solid, too, as he's thrown at least 94 pitches in three of his last four outings.

Facing an offense that struggles against lefties overall and is in a slump right now, Steele is in a good spot. Our MLB projections peg him to total 5.6 strikeouts today, and the over is the side I'll be on.

Sean Manaea Under 17.5 Outs (-114)

Lefty Jose Quintana kept the Minnesota Twins quiet last night, and fellow southpaw Sean Manaea will try to do the same today. It'll be a tall task to follow suit.

Despite Quintana's effort on Monday, Minnesota has been really good against left-handers in 2024, sitting fifth in wOBA in the split (.333), and they just got back Royce Lewis, a big-time right-handed bat.

Manaea is on pace for his worst SIERA since 2018, pitching to a 4.40 mark through 106 innings. Righties are striking out just 21.7% of the time against him while recording a juicy 46.2% fly-ball rate.

For this bet to cash, Manaea needs to be pulled before completing six innings. He's finished six frames just three times across his past 12 starts. We project him to go 5.5 innings today.

Jose Altuve 2+ Total Bases (-115)

The Houston Astros draw a mouthwatering home matchup versus Bailey Falter.

The Pittsburgh Pirates' southpaw is the owner of a 4.88 SIERA and 16.7% strikeout rate. Righties have tagged him for a 45.3% fly-ball rate while striking out just 15.7% of the time, which leads me to Jose Altuve.

Altuve is mauling left-handers this campaign to the tune of a .376 wOBA and .482 slugging percentage. Overall, he's been much better at home (.383 wOBA) than on the road (.328). At home versus lefties, he's got a massive .403 wOBA.

Altuve has recorded at least two bases in each of his past two games, notching a pair of doubles in one of those outings, and he's in a good spot to keep that streak going in a home clash with Falter.
