MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Sunday 7/28/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Manny Machado to Hit a Home Run (+470)

Manny Machado might continue to terrorize his former team on Sunday.

Machado homered on Saturday, which is the highlight of a 3-for-9 series against the Baltimore Orioles with 3 RBI and 3 runs. His best matchup to hit a long ball might actually be today, though.

Few pitchers in baseball are due for regression in that regard like Baltimore's Albert Suarez. Suarez has an outlierishly low 5.4% homer-to-flyball ratio, which is almost wizardry with poor flyball (40.9%) and hard-hit (38.9%) rates allowed. His 3.48 ERA is showing a 4.28 expected ERA (xERA) on merit.

Meanwhile, Manny has ripped the cover off the ball against righties in the past 30 days. In this time, he has an .826 OPS, .244 ISO, 38.7% flyball rate, and 41.9% hard-hit rate against them.

FanDuel Research's daily MLB projections have Machado forecasted at 0.23 homers, which would roughly merit +387 odds for one. This line is likely longer than it should be thanks to Suarez's ERA and the fact that the third baseman went deep yesterday.

Garrett Crochet Under 7.5 Strikeouts (-134)

Rarely do I genuinely feel that FanDuel Sportsbook missed one, but this feels like they missed one.

I love Garrett Crochet's ability as much as anyone, but the Chicago White Sox have put a leash on him as they approach the trade deadline. He's been capped under 75 pitches in consecutive starts, including a bizarre outing where he posted 28 pitches two starts ago. It's hard to see that trend reversing in a lost season three days from the deadline.

It'll be extremely difficult to pile up Ks with that the case. The Seattle Mariners' 22.9% strikeout rate against lefties in the past 30 days isn't some outlier of a whiff rate, either.

We've got Crochet projected for just 5.6 Ks in 5.0 innings, and even that length in this game might be generous. I'd hop on this before it moves to 6.5.

Tyler Fitzgerald to Record 2+ Bases (+115)

The San Francisco Giants have had two breakout surprises this season. First came Heliot Ramos to make the All-Star Game, and now, Tyler Fitzgerald has firmly inserted himself into the team's future plans.

Fitzgerald is hitting .324 with 9 homers in 44 games, but his underlying peripherals against left-handers are why he's moved up to the projected second spot in today's order. Over the past month, the shortstop has posted a 346 wRC+, 1.615 OPS, and .682 ISO against lefties in a decent sample of 23 plate appearances. Importantly for this base prop, he's walked just once in this time.

S.F. draws a weak lefty today in the form of Austin Gomber. The much-maligned Gomber is away from Coors Field, but the Colorado Rockies' defacto ace still has an ugly 4.78 xERA and .277 expected batting average allowed when accounting for his ballpark.

It's hard not to ride Fitzgerald's hand when it's not just hot -- it's nuclear. He's got 8 homers in his last 10 contests with many coming against more fearsome hurlers than Gomber.
