MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Sunday 7/21/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

MLB Player Props

Michael King Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-114)

Though strikeouts can be hard to come by against the Cleveland Guardians, Michael King is well-positioned to pitch deep into today's game at Progressive Field -- one of the friendliest venues for pitchers in baseball.

The former New York Yankees prospect has broken out with his new team, amassing a stellar 3.69 expected ERA (xERA), .232 expected batting average allowed (xBA), and 32.0% hard-hit rate allowed. King's rate of hard contact ranks in the 89th percentile in MLB.

Meanwhile, Cleveland has stalled to a .658 OPS against right-handed pitching over the past 30 days, the sixth-worst mark in baseball. In this case, their low strikeout rate in the same parameters (20.1%) could help King pitch deeper into the game and keep his count of tosses low.

Most other domestic sportsbooks have this line closer to (or beyond) -120, so there's value to be had rushing to FanDuel if you're down to back the Padres' right-hander.

Heliot Ramos to Record an RBI (+105)

The San Francisco Giants' representative at Tuesday's All-Star Game was Heliot Ramos, and he'll look to end a four-game drought without a ribby today at Coors Field.

Ramos draws lefty Austin Gomber, and any southpaw toeing the slab has been positive news for S.F.'s breakout hitter. Specifically, he's posted a 204 wRC+, 1.087 OPS, and .208 ISO against lefties in the past 30 days, presenting a decent sample of 26 plate appearances.

Gomber is also no average lefty. The Colorado Rockies' "prized return" of the Nolan Arenado deal has an ugly 4.79 xERA, .277 xBA, and 9.8% barrel rate allowed through 18 starts.

His struggles, combined with Ramos' power, could provide a decent look at Ramos to Hit a Home Run (+320), but this is definitely playing it safer with the starting lineup showing the right-handed batter slotted third in today's order. Our daily MLB projections expect 1.04 RBIs from him on Sunday, so the plus money here is appealing.

Jarren Duran to Record 2+ Bases (+100)

On Sunday Night Baseball, Jarren Duran will look to keep rolling in same-handed matchups.

Duran has mashed lefties over the past 30 days to the tune of a 129 wRC+ and .820 OPS in the past 30 days, and the Boston Red Sox's every day player has affirmed that success with a solid sample of 37 plate appearances. He'll likely hit second as he did last night against a southpaw.

Tonight's lefty he'll face is James Paxton, who has continued to skirt the razor's edge of regression as he enters the second half of the campaign. Paxton's 4.38 ERA isn't close to as ugly as a 4.83 xERA, .259 xBA, and 42.0% hard-hit rate allowed suggest it should be.

Plus, when Paxton departs, the Los Angeles Dodgers have the worst bullpen xFIP in baseball over the past month of play (4.58). Duran shouldn't be short on quality opportunities to do some damage.

FanDuel Research's projections expect 2.06 total bases from Duran at a median in Sunday night's contest.
