MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Monday 8/5/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing MLB projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

MLB Player Props

Roddery Munoz Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-112)

The Cincinnati Reds have been a match made in heaven for pitchers looking to stack strikeouts. They have the fifth-highest strikeout percentage (K%) in baseball and have reached a double-digit K total in three of their last five.

Enter Roddery Munoz of the Miami Marlins. He has surpassed 4.5 strikeouts in two of his last three appearances. After failing to complete the fifth inning in five of his seven outings from May 6th to July 5th, Munoz has pitched for at least five innings in four consecutive starts.

The Reds also total the sixth-fewest runs above average against sliders. Munoz's bread and butter for Ks is his slider (33.9%) compared to his four-seam fastball (16.2%), sinker (15.7%), and cutter (13.4%) all carrying low strikeout rates, per Baseball Savant.

The evidence keeps going with Cincy's 25.4 K% when facing righties versus 23.2% against southpaws. The Redlegs have totaled two of fewer runs in two of their previous three contests, pointing to another solid start for Munoz.

Reaching five strikeouts looks quite likely for the Marlins' starter.

Andrew Vaughn to Record 2+ Total Bases (+105)

There isn't a whole lot to like about the Chicago White Sox's batting order. They have the fewest runs scored by over 50 while touting the lowest wOBA.

Perhaps Chicago's leading hitter -- Andrew Vaughn -- carries the most valuable line in the order. He's had at least one hit in 8 of his previous 11 games. This also includes four games with at least two total bases.

Vaughn has heated up, logging at least two bases in three of his past four. He gets a left-handed pitcher tonight against the Oakland Athletics' JP Sears. Vaughn slashes .291/.309/.481 when facing lefties compared to .221/.287/.369 against right-handed hurlers. His batting average and OBP even rise on the road, going from .231 and .286 to .240 and .297.

Adding to Vaughn's case, Sears has underwhelming marks with a 4.56 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 4.82 xFIP. Opponents are hitting .292 while slugging .472 over his last three outings.

Vaughn's slugging is up and he's facing a lefty who is in the bottom 29% of hard-hit percentage. Give me Chicago's first baseman to reach at least two total bases.

Enrique Hernandez to Record an RBI (+210)

Not many batters on the Los Angeles Dodgers have found success against the Philadelphia Phillies' Aaron Nola. For example, Shohei Ohtani has no hits in three career at-bats against the one-time All-Star.

On a team full of stars, Enrique Hernandez could be the batter worth targeting in this matchup. He has a deflating .213 batting average, but don't let that scare you. Hernandez has six hits in 11 at-bats (.545) in August. The current hot streak complements his three hits in six career at-bats against Nola (.500).

The rolling third baseman is gearing up to stay hot tonight, but let's take some time to also focus on the potential for an RBI.

The odds are certainly juicy enough, and Hernandez has totaled four ribbies over his last two games. He has also logged 18 of his 23 RBIs against right-handed pitchers, as well.

He's raking against sinkers (.347), which is among Nola's three most-used pitches. The Dodgers have given Nola some trouble as the starter has allowed at least four earned runs in three of his past four meetings with L.A.

Hernandez to record an RBI is worth a swing considering his recent hot streak and the Dodgers' success against Nola.
