Matt Painter on the Final Four: "I want it for both our current and former players."

Purdue has won a combined 58 games in the past two seasons, but it feels like all the Boilers are associated with during that span is a pair of NCAA Tournament losses to St. Peter's and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Nobody knows that better than Matt Painter.

It's a major part of the reason why he desperately wants to get this group -- one that returns six of its top seven scorers from a year ago -- to a Final Four in 2024.

"I want it for both our current and former players," Painter said on this week's edition of the College Hoops Today Podcast. "You want it for those guys. You want it for your fans and alumni. You want it for all those people."

Painter also knows the magnitude of Purdue's loss to Fairleigh Dickinson last March, one that many believe is the biggest upset in the history of the sport.

"You have to sit in it," Painter said. "You have to learn from it."

Purdue is currently ranked third in the ROTHSTEIN 45 and opens the 2023-24 season on Monday night at Mackey Arena against Samford.
