Jordan Poole, Chris Paul Traded: Tracking the Betting Impact

We didn't get too many headline-grabbing trades on NBA Draft day, but there was one big move as the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards teamed up for a swap of big names.

Trade Recap

And just like that, Chris Paul's Wizards tenure is over.

After being dealt to DC in the trade that sent Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns, Paul wasn't long for the nation's capital, and it's the Warriors who swoop in to nab the future Hall of Famer. CP3 gives the Dubs another ball-handler and veteran presence, and he should fit well with an organization that is fully in win-now mode.

In return, the Warriors had to give up a young, talented Poole. While the 24-year-old Poole certainly has upside, he seemed to have worn out his welcome in the Bay Area, struggling mightily in the playoffs this past campaign.

Poole is obviously going to a much worse team, but he should be in for a substantially bigger role with the Wiz.

Betting Impact

While this is definitely a fun trade to dissect, it didn't move the needle much in terms of betting odds.

Prior to the deal, the Warriors were +1300 to win it all. They've since shortened to +1200, giving them the fifth-best title odds for 2023-24. Golden State is the third-largest favorite to win the West at odds of +600.

The Wizards were at +50000 early Thursday, and they're still at that number after this trade, tying them with six other teams for league-low odds. The Wiz were always going to be extreme longshots coming into the year, but they were +25000 before moving Beal and seeing Kyle Kuzma opt into free agency.
