How Many Games Will Ohio State Win in 2024?

For the 2024-25 college football season, it appears the Ryan Day era will continue in Columbus.

With the Big Ten bringing in several newcomers next academic year, the conference once exclusive to the Midwest will now house 18 separate institutions on the gridiron. For the Ohio State Buckeyes, what can we expect in this new chapter of FBS?

Last season, Ohio State shined en route to an 11-2 record, which was the school's third consecutive year at that same mark. More importantly, the Buckeyes have not earned the Big Ten football crown since 2020.

Before spring ball gets up and running, let's have a look at Ohio State's 2024-25 win total at FanDuel Sportsbook while taking both perspectives.

Why Ohio State Could Win Over 10.5 Games (-150)

There's no two ways about it; Ohio State has supplied the NFL with copious talent over the past few years -- and throughout history at large. Still, as recently as 2016, six different Buckeyes have gone on to win wither OROY or DROY. Simply, they recruit really well in Columbus.

As mentioned, head coach Ryan Day is still powering the program for Ohio State. Of course, one of their biggest changes will come at the quarterback position. Last year's starter Kyle McCord has transferred to the Syracuse Orange while Will Howard comes to town from the Kansas State Wildcats. In all, it should lead to improved quarterback play for the Buckeyes.

As an incoming freshman, 6-foot-3, five-star receiver Jeremiah Smith will look to fill the void left by Marvin Harrison Jr. Smith -- a native of Hollywood, FL -- has high-end speed and skills that will put the Big Ten on notice.

On the defensive side of the football, Ohio State could be returning as many as nine starters. In 2023, this unit was already one of the best in the nation The Buckeyes allowed just 11.2 PPG, which was the second-stingiest clip in FBS. Defensive linemen J.T. Tuimoloau and Tyleik Williams are the energy leaders on that side of the football and continually harass opposing quarterbacks.

Looking at the Buckeyes' 2024-25 schedule, they should be sizably favored in every contest except possibly in Eugene versus the Oregon Ducks, in State College against the Penn State Nittany Lions, and at home taking on the Michigan Wolverines.

Taking on this first season of an extended Big Ten, Ohio State will be looking to set the tone. Naturally, OSU has long been considered a flagship institution of the campus. Still, how will the landscape be affected once four schools from the west coast join the party?

Why Ohio State Could Win Under 10.5 Games (+120)

In the same way that Ohio State will be favored in majority of their contests this season, they also don't have too many slouch games after preseason. The Buckeyes' conference schedule starts with a romp with the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing; MSU should be improved in 2024 compared to recent campaigns.

First on the priority list in Columbus is getting the new QB Howard acclimated with the offense. Over his past two seasons at K-State, Howard displayed a 39-14 TD-INT ratio but only once has he finished a season with a completion clip better than 60%. He will need an improved effort to show he is a clear upgrade compared to the outgoing Kyle McCord.

Transparently, the Buckeyes should not endure many woes on the defensive side. On offense, it will be a slightly different story. As noted, both McCord and Harrison have moved on. Next, tight end Cade Stover and tailback Miyan Williams are now preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft. Collectively, the offense will look a bit different. However, receiver Emeka Egbuka is one holdover of note.

We should not kid ourselves here; 10.5 games is just about the highest win total you will find at FanDuel Sportsbook. For any team, getting to 11 regular season wins is no small feat. At most, that leaves room for two losses on the year. A high-wire act such as that is to always be respected.
