Verdict

BAKERS DOZEN (8) needed the run when making her South Island debut here 3 weeks ago. Breaking through the barriers before the start certainly didn't help her either that day. She strips fitter, and looks to be the one to beat for us. EMPRESS SUIKO (5) has been a long-time maiden, and her recent form has been solid enough without looking like she is going to break through. She cops a tough gate, but should still be included in all top 4 combos. WHO ROX THE HOUSE (7) has shown talent when trained in the North Island, and she will be even better with more time on her side. She meets the right sort of field here, and she can make a winning South Island debut. TURN THE TIDE (14) is another former North Island-trained filly who only peaked on her run late when finishing fourth fresh up at Ascot Park 16 days ago. She strips fitter, and an extra 1f won't be a problem. Stick with her.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.

Also Eligible

A horse that is entered but does not draw into the body of the field due to too many entries, and thus is not permitted to start unless there are enough scratches to shrink the field size.

Scratch

A horse is a scratch when injury or other necessity causes it to be withdrawn from the race.
