Verdict

WAIATA (7) resumed from a spell that had done her the world of good, and won easily here 5 weeks ago. There is more in store for this progressive filly, and even from a tougher gate, she can take the next step immediately. COOL 'N' FAST (1) was close up in third place as the favourite when resuming at Ellerslie, before producing a poor run at Taupo nearly 7 weeks ago on a track that was upsetting a few horses that day. He has been freshened and returns with some gear changes. Don't rule him out of winning this. BONIFLEUR (3) did not race up to expectations last prep in 3 runs on the Cambridge poly track over the winter. She has won fresh up in the past, and cannot be taken lightly. Each way value. PARAVANE (6) won her maiden at Ellerslie fresh up last season, and then was fourth in a 5-horse field at Te Rapa before being put aside to mature. She will be wanting more ground soon enough, but can still figure in the top 4 here. HOT CARD (9) was close up in a better field last start.
