Verdict

They don't come much tougher than this, mainly because there's not much form to speak of and a lot of these horses won't ever get a better chance to win a race. CRIES AND WHISPERS (2) might be best of a bad bunch. Won three trials coming into the campaign and can only be better for the first-up run, which is as good as any last-start performance of anything else in the race. INDEPENDANT LAD (13) turned in a moderate effort on debut last start when sixth at Seymour over 6 ½f, beaten 6 lengths. Worth following up with that first run out of the way. THE ARCHER (6) finished third at Ballarat Synthetic two runs back but was less effective last time over 7f on the same track. Has the ability to play a role here. BLUES TRAVELER (12) turned in a moderate effort on debut last start when sixth at Seymour over 6f, beaten 8 lengths. Not to be discounted. I'LLUVYOULONGTIME (11) has a tricky draw to contend with but tuned up for this with a nice Caulfield trial.
