Verdict

FABALOT (1) made a strong return from a layoff in a hurdle (2m) at Warrnambool, finishing 1L second. That run was his first for the Shane Jackson yard and he's trialled since. Has the inside gate and races forward. Should be tough to beat. HIT THE ROAD JACK (4) won twice over hurdles before the break and needed the first-up at Terang on the flat. Steps up plenty in distance, but he's on a 7-day return and can get some of the better money. CASTROFRANCARU (2) may have the measure of CHEROKEE BRAVE (6), but both would need to lift to be winning.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

Bobble/Stumble

A slip or a duck from a horse trying to leave the starting gates, often caused by the surface giving way under the feet. This can range from a mild misstep to a stumble down to their knees.

Fast

A dry dirt track that is typically an ideal racing surface.
