AREAAN (9) has looked in need of his two starts this preparation. He'd just missed riding the speed at Bendigo prior and should be ready to test that level of form. He has a 7lbs promising claimer aboard today, which brings him right into it. PHINEAS (15) resumes, and he showed enough in his brief initial preparation to suggest this is winnable. Raced a short-priced favourite at Bendigo before the break and has two jumpouts under the saddle. Kersley is a positive jockey engagement. BLACK COAL (1) resumes and is also good enough. Missed a whisker three back at Geelong on debut, and he placed in his latest Cranbourne jumpout. The niggle with him is the outside gate, but Nolen's booking helps offset it.
