Verdict

IL CIELO (1) produced a reasonable effort when second last start over 1m at Ararat, which followed a win at this track the start prior. Looks very well-placed in 56 grade, something made possible by the smart engagement of impressive young rider Zac Moore, who takes 9lbs off. REGAL ASCEND (6) was a determined maiden winner last time out, flashing late to win over 7f at Terang. Still only lightly raced and has plenty of scope for improvement. YOU NEVER CAN TELL (5) couldn't be entertained on the last start effort, but that was in BM62 grade, as was the 4th placing the start prior, a repeat of which would be good enough to feature here. SQUANDER (7) was unplaced for the first time in a while last start, which can probably be attributed to the wet track. Big chance to bounce back here on firmer ground despite the wide draw. HOTINHERRE (9) was a big price first-up, but charged late to go down narrowly here and she can springboard off that.
