Verdict

REGENERATION (7) returned last time with a solid second at Sale over 6f after being prominent at the bend. Needs to be at his best to beat this field but he deserves his chance. MERIMBULA (6) didn't hit the mark when highly-fancied in two runs in the debut campaign, but was far from disgraced and has looked good in a couple of Mornington jumpouts in preparation for the return. TSAVO (8) resumed from a spell last start with a sound third over 5f at Bendigo when he made late ground. Must raise the bar but he has the talent to test this line-up. VALEDICTORIAN (9) is ready to break through after collecting his 4th minor placing in a row last time over 5f at Cranbourne. Should camp just off the leaders. Meets some better types this time but he has the talent to test this line-up.

Second-up. Promising on debut 3rd of 12 at Sale 2yo Mdn-Sw on June 12 over 5 ½f, on a slow track, 1.4 len behind The Volta carrying 128lbs at $4.20. Went for a spell before returning sat on the speed and boxed on steadily 2nd of 8 at Sale Mdn-Sw on October 26 over 6f, slow going neck behind Whiskey Joe carrying 126lbs at $2.70. Only narrowly beaten first-up, when he looked the winner, so expect him to come on from that.

Resumes from a spell. Finished off last preparation fifth of 11 at this track Mdn-Sw August 8 over 7 ½f, soft track, 5.5 len behind Hot Too Go carrying 126lbs at $3.30. On debut fourth of 10 at this track Mdn-Sw July 25 over 6 ¼f, soft track, 2.25 len behind Bingi carrying 126lbs at $2.50. Been a lot to like about two jumpout efforts, which hint at a big first-up performance.

Racing second-up today. Last start 3rd of 8 at Bendigo Mdn-Sw on October 29 over 5f, 2 len behind Cavern with 128lbs at $31. At only start last preparation from last on the turn 5th of 10 at Gosford 2yo Mdn-Sw on June 19 over 5 ½f, on a slow track, 1.3 len behind Just Awesome carrying 126lbs at $26. Great first-up in a handy Bendigo Cup Day maiden, just has a tricky gate to contend with.
