Verdict

Not many better-bred horses here today than BLUE SHIELD (3), who is by Blue Point out of the Oakleigh Plate winner Sheidel. Given a quiet time of things in first trial but then glided away from rivals stylishly under a light ride at the latest to win impressive. Inside alley a big plus. MARWOOBA (10) was unplaced at his only start, but that was in a Saturday race at Randwick, when beaten just over four lengths. Gelded since and has trialled well at Flemington with blinkers going on here. TROUBLE'N PARADISE (8) hasn't done much wrong in two starts to date, beaten less than a length in each. Ready for a peak performance and has a fitness edge on some key rivals. RECYCLE KING (6) has been similarly consistent his past couple, but hasn't draw as well as some here. BLUE BLUE DAY (2) extended nicely to win his latest jumpout, which followed two second placings, so he looks to have a good platform for a strong debut showing.

Resumes from a spell after only one run when settled back and ran on when 5th of 10 at Randwick 2yo Hcp on December 27 over 5 ½f, 4 len behind By Choice carrying 123lbs at $14. Will find this much easier than the debut option and not knocked around in two jumpouts this time in.
