Verdict

Long one to start the day and for a distance race on a midweek card there are a couple who have performed well in much better races of late. FARAG (1) went around huge odds in the 1 ¾m at Flemington on Cup Day and ran out of his skin. Finds an easier assignment and can take the next step and salute. FERAGO (2) comes through the same race and while he never threatened there, he ran fourth in the Geelong Cup the start prior. Was beaten 2.65 lengths that day by Torranzino, who end up fifth in the Melbourne Cup. SPLIT (4) was out of the money two runs back then again missed the frame last start over 1 ½m at Bendigo, beaten 3.5 lengths into eighth. Faces an easier assignment so he is a major player. ROARING ENGINE (5) basically had a trial at this track last weekend, but that was on an unsuitable wet track over a trip well short of his best, so he can run an improved race here.
