Verdict

The G1 Empire Rose and LADY SHENANDOAH (1) is clearly the one to beat. She's been a rock-solid mare at G1 level over a range of distances but a mile might just be her best trip having burst through under 128lbs to win the G1 Toorak Handicap last start. She's much better placed back to her own sex and a repeat of last start will see her winning again. IDLE FLYER (2) is the one with an established peak to challenge having beaten her in the G1 Queen Of The Turf over this trip in the Autumn. Jury out a bit on how she's going but she did race wide last week and can improve back out to a mile. Certainly not discounting SURFIN' BIRD (3) who is unbeaten over a mile, running fast time two back at Caulfield then sprinting well off a slower speed to win last week. She'll be hard to run down. UNLEESHING (5) finished all over them to win the G3 Angst last time and is progressive. CONCORD CONNIE (10) has had excuses in both runs and should improve to a mile on the big track.
