Verdict

Competitive race to finish. If PERSIAN SPIRIT (13) replicates what he did on the clock last start he'll take a power of beating. He got to the right lanes at Flemington on wet ground but destroyed his rivals by 4.5 lengths in fast time. Not nearly as well in this time going up 7lbs in a tougher race but he's hard to ignore. HERE TO SHOCK (1) is the proven class. He's been contesting largely better races than this for a while, although was a bit disappointing in the G3 Moonga Stakes here last time. Freshened for this, drawn well and gets Zahra on, expecting a better run. BIG SWINGER (14) was well supported fresh down the Flemington straight, running well for third with improvement to come. He's always had a bit of boom on him, this will be a good test. AMENABLE (6) stuck on well here fresh behind Zou Sensation. Fitter now and drawn ideally, he should run well. Betting the best guide for CRAIG (11) off a year-long spell. He's absolutely good enough.

Bobble/Stumble

A slip or a duck from a horse trying to leave the starting gates, often caused by the surface giving way under the feet. This can range from a mild misstep to a stumble down to their knees.

Colt

A male horse that is four years of age or under.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.
