Verdict

Good contest. KRANICH (4) has been knocking on the door all campaign. Has hit the line strongly in his last two after getting a long way back from wide gates. Draws to settle closer this time, and if he lets down with the same turn of foot, he will prove very tough to hold out. OLLIE'S SECRET (3) pushed forward and proved too tough for them over this trip at Mudgee last time. This isn't much tougher so if he holds his form he will be right there again. LOCKDOWN GAMBLE (1) returns and is a noted fresh performer. Has trialled sharply in readiness and all signs point towards a bold return, though he does have the big weight to carry. MOUNTAIN TOP (2) is on the quick back up after sitting on the pace and boxing on well to finish third at Parkes nine days ago. Good effort last start and she should be at her top now. Gets her chance to break a long run of outs.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Minus Pool

A pari-mutuel pool – typically a show pool - where one horse is so heavily bet that after deductions there is not enough money left to cover the prescribed minimum on each bet.

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.

Blinkers

A hood worn on a horse’s head to limit side vision, which can improve concentration. Blinkers are added or removed to relax a horse or give it more focus.
