Verdict

NAVAL OFFICER (5) finished seventh but weighed in light and was disqualified last start over 6 ½f at Dubbo. Has raced once over the mile for a win and is yet to miss the frame in three appearances at Wellington. In the right race to return to form. SPORTS PAGE (1) backs up seven days after making good late inroads to finish third over 7f at Warren. Yet to prove herself at this trip but that run last Sunday suggests she is ready for another tilt. KILTIKI (9) shared the lead into the straight and gave everything but missed narrowly in a thrilling finish over 7f at Coonabarabran last time out. That was his first run in four months so there is plenty of improvement to come. Won his maiden here and is a big chance to get the job done again. WAY TO DIVINE (3) bolted in at Forbes recently. Up in grade but she is very effective at the mile and has placed three from three here. Last start Dubbo winner ALWAYS FIORENTE (2) finds a tougher assignment today but is one for the exotics.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Blinkers

A hood worn on a horse’s head to limit side vision, which can improve concentration. Blinkers are added or removed to relax a horse or give it more focus.

Track Bias

The term used to identify which parts of the track or running styles are producing more winners.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.
