Verdict

Veteran mare THE ARTEFACT (10) has a new lease on life this prep. Opened with a tidy win at Mudgee then had a 44-day let-up before closing hard but just missing in a Class 3 over 6 ?f at Cowra last start. Back in trip but strips fitter and at the weights looks the one to beat. The clear threat is CRUSADER KINGS (1) who scored a barnstorming win over 5 ½f at Wyong before a respectable effort in a Randwick Highway over this distance 16 days ago. Has a wide gate and 61kgs but with any luck can take this out. SHADDAP (5) changed tactics and raced forward last start before tiring to finish fourth in open company at Cowra. Back in class and fitter for two runs back from a spell so this sets up nicely. GRACEFUL ELLEN (7) wasn't far away when resuming over today's journey at Canterbury recently. Second-up form isn't great but that return in town looks good for a race of this calibre. The unbeaten ANDALE ANDALE (11) resumes. Big class jump on what he faced last time in but must respect.
