Verdict

Nice race with plenty of hopes. CALTSAR (1) returned with a barnstorming win at the Beaumont track then raced wide and should be forgiven his failure over this distance at Randwick last start. Promising four-year-old who has won three from five and with the help of the inside alley can make it four from six. AHELLBENDA (6) contested the same race as Caltsar at headquarters 17 days ago and was easily accounted for in the end after leading the field for home. Draws a better gate and can bounce back on her return to the provincials. Veteran GENERAL SOHO (3) hasn't won for a while but saves his best for Newcastle. Even effort over the mile at Warwick Farm last time. Can never be underestimated at this level. JAGERBOMB (7) didn't miss a place at the maiden campaign. Could go through the grades this time in.
