Verdict

Newcomers MERLIN ALLEN and Maxios Aurelius both make plenty of appeal on paper and confidence behind either in the betting would look significant. As things stand, preference is for the former, who is out of a bumper winner and represents a yard with a good record in this sphere. Pureis King landed the odds on debut at Market Rasen and is greatly respected, despite his penalty, and Power Quest will also be a threat, provided he settles better than he did first time out at Exeter.

Backed as if defeat was out of the question on debut in a Market Rasen bumper (16.6f, good) last month and he duly delivered the goods, pulling clear of the rest with the runner-up. Open to improvement and bold show likely under a penalty.
