Verdict

BARNABY (4) has recorded two wins and two minor placings from the past five starts. Was again a dominant force last start when he scored over 1 ?m at this track, getting home by 3.5 metres. A nice draw on the front line should ensure a cosy run. Leading hope in a similar race. ANOTHER NIEN (6) ran second last start at Hobart over 1 ¼m, beaten 8 metres. Has ability and should be right in the finish. IRON CLAD (5) is better than his last-start tenth over 1m at Hobart. TOLD YOU TWICE (1) is the best of the rest after finishing fifth over 1 ¼m at Hobart last time out.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

Blinkers

A hood worn on a horse’s head to limit side vision, which can improve concentration. Blinkers are added or removed to relax a horse or give it more focus.

Bobble/Stumble

A slip or a duck from a horse trying to leave the starting gates, often caused by the surface giving way under the feet. This can range from a mild misstep to a stumble down to their knees.
