Verdict

ROOSTER PHILLIPS (4) looked good in a resuming win by more than at Mildura but it all went wrong last time where he broke, was hampered by a flat tyre and had no clear run. Must overlook that and he returns to the front row so can get back on track. MAISIELOUISA (1) has been racing well, placing in three of her last four starts including a third most recently at Port Pirie when she started on the back row. No excuses from the ace draw so she looks a danger. BETTOR LOVER (9) suffered a gear malfunction last start but placed at his previous two so is worth another chance. CARRAMAR SANCHEZ (5) will be fitter for recent racing so could show more.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.

Fractions

The times recorded during the race; with timing starting just past the gate or when the gates open, then parroted for the quarter, half, three-quarters etc. Used as an indication of ability and speed.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.
