Verdict

MAESTRO (9) was impressive here last week when he raced parked but drew clear to score by 11 metres last week. That made it back-to-back wins having scored in Victoria prior. Has to contend with a wide draw but with even luck he is capable of getting the job done again. ALPHA STRIDE (3) chased Maestro when runner-up last week but has the benefit of a better draw. Should be at peak fitness so could turn the tables. MISTER BLINDSIDE (10) draws widest but the form reads well, winning three back at this circuit and distance and chasing the in-form Hellbound when placed in stronger grade last time. ALDEBARAN SUSANNE (6) brings decent form from Victoria, winning a Listed race for the mares two back at Melton and coming from the second line for a 1.4m second at Bendigo last time. Can measure up.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Yielding

A rain-soaked turf condition often producing a slick or heavy course and slower finish times.

Rabbit

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.

Also Eligible

A horse that is entered but does not draw into the body of the field due to too many entries, and thus is not permitted to start unless there are enough scratches to shrink the field size.
