PHILATELIC (3) was edged out first-up at Hawkesbury then got a long way back before making significant inroads to grab second last start over 7f at Newcastle. Likely to peak for this over the slightly longer journey. SAVOONGA (6) had a soft run at the back of a small field then lengthened nicely to collect her maiden over 6 ¾f at Wyong last time out. Progressive mare who looks capable of climbing to another level here. COSTABIT (4) has been in the market but disappointing in two runs since a minor placing at Hawkesbury over this trip on 23 June. The stable is persevering deep into the prep so he might have more to offer today. VELIA (7) was a despised roughie but charged home to be beaten just a length when resuming over 6 ½f here recently. Good lightweight hope over the extra 1f second-up. ICEFORD (1) is trialling well and looks ready for a bright return from a 21-week lay-off.
