Verdict

SLIPPIN' JIMMY (1) has been plying his trade in Saturday metro company of late and will appreciate the drop back in grade here. Rock-hard fit now fourth run back and should be right there when the whips are cracking. FLYING BAT (5) has placed over this track and trip and gets in well at the weights with Apel's claim. Can make his presence felt. ATMOSPHERE (2) saves his best form for this trip and is much better than the recent effort suggests. Can bounce right back without surprising. DEEP RESPECT (3) got the job done over this course and distance last time out and will have derived some confidence from that victory. In the mix. FORT WILLIAM (6) is a last-start winner who shouldn't be slept on.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Synthetic Surface

A racing surface comprised of silica sand and fibers, such as recycled carpet or spandex. The mixture is then sealed with wax.

Bobble/Stumble

A slip or a duck from a horse trying to leave the starting gates, often caused by the surface giving way under the feet. This can range from a mild misstep to a stumble down to their knees.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.
