5 College Basketball Games to Watch This Weekend: It Feels Like March
Who’s ready for a great weekend?
Check below for our list of five games to watch this weekend in college basketball.
In no particular order:
College Basketball Games to Watch
UConn at St. John's (Saturday)
The defending national champions will take a nine-game winning streak into Saturday's game at MSG, which will feature a fascinating battle of wits between Dan Hurley and Rick Pitino.
The Red Storm clearly aren't fans of the Huskies' staff based on Pitino's comments in the media over the past month following St. John's tough loss in Hartford in December. It will also be interesting to see who dominates the crowd, as the World's Most Famous Arena has been a pseudo home court for UConn over the past few seasons.
There are several key games this weekend, but this one has the potential to be the most hostile.
Houston at Kansas (Saturday)
The first Big 12 meeting between these two programs takes place at Allen Fieldhouse, and the big question is whether or not Kevin McCullar (19.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists) will play for the Jayhawks. The All-American wing was unavailable in Tuesday night's win over Oklahoma State due to a knee injury.
The Cougars have won two straight games on the road after back-to-back losses at both Iowa State and TCU in early January.
Duke at North Carolina (Saturday)
Do we need to say more? The premier rivalry in the sport will take centerstage on Saturday night in Chapel Hill. It will feature a fascinating matchup in the backcourt between Tar Heels star R.J. Davis and Duke's Tyrese Proctor, who is averaging 16.4 points in his last five games.
Tennessee at Kentucky (Saturday)
The craziest thing about this game? One of these teams is going to be on a losing streak following the contest's conclusion. Both Tennessee and Kentucky lost earlier this week, putting even more onus on Saturday night's showdown at Rupp Arena.
Health will play a major role for the Wildcats, who did not have both D.J. Wagner (ankle) and Justin Edwards (knee) in Wednesday night's loss to Florida.
Purdue at Wisconsin (Sunday)
This is a massive couple of days for the Badgers. Greg Gard's squad will travel to Nebraska on Thursday and then host Purdue on Sunday at the Kohl Center. Both games will be Quad 1 opportunities.
Wisconsin is on the verge of putting itself firmly in the conversation to be a number-one seed in the NCAA Tournament -- if it can beat Zach Edey and the Boilers on Sunday. That's easier said than done.
