Pitcher Breakdown

Wednesday's main slate locks at 7:07 pm ET and features a staggering five pitchers with five-figure salaries.

But for me, Tarik Skubal ($11,100) is the top option thanks to his road date with the Seattle Mariners. Skubal has been one of the best pitchers baseball this season, ranking fourth in SIERA (2.92) and sixth in K% (29.9%) while sporting the shortest odds to win American League Cy Young (-260). He's racked up 40+ FanDuel points (FPs) in four of his last six starts -- a mark well in his range of outcomes tonight considering Seattle ranks 19th in wRC+ (94) and has the third-highest K% (26.1%) against LHP.

Chris Sale ($11,300) is right up with Skubal, and he's projected for a slate-best 40 FPs according to our MLB DFS projections. His matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers isn't as tasty as Skubal's -- Milwaukee is 15th in wRC (104) and Ks at only a 20.7% clip against lefties -- but the opponent hasn't really mattered for Sale this season. The southpaw has the most wins (13) in baseball while placing top-five in K% (32.2%) and SIERA (2.79).

Others to Consider

  • Erick Fedde ($8,900 vs. TB) - Early roster rate projections from around the industry don't anticipate Fedde to be heavily utilized against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's my favorite arm under $9K. Fedde struggled in his St. Louis Cardinals debut, but he still has a 3.85 SIERA and is averaging a hair under 30 FPPG on the year. The Rays are just 21st in wRC+ (95) versus RHP, and Fedde torched them for 56 FPs back in April.
  • Trevor Rogers ($6,800 at TOR) - I don't love Rogers' profile, but it's hard to ignore a Baltimore Orioles pitcher with a sub-$7K salary. His 4.83 SIERA is gross, but the lefty forces a lot of ground balls (46.5% GB%) and has cracked 25 FPs in six of his last 10 starts. The Toronto Blue Jays are down at 24th in wOBA (.296) against LHP, so the matchup isn't bad, either. With a 27.9-FP projection, he's our top point-per-dollar value on the slate (4.1 FPs per $1,000).
