MLB DFS Picks

Pitcher Breakdown

Cole Ragans ($10,900) is always going to carry one of the highest ceilings when he's on the main slate with an xERA in the 77th percentile (3.26) and strikeout rate in the 90th percentile (29.6%). While the Arizona Diamondbacks have the 12th-lowest strikeout rate (21.3%), 6th-best wOBA (.332), and 8th-best wRC+ (114) to lefties this season, Shota Imanaga -- a fellow southpaw -- just struck out 10 batters while giving one earned run to Arizona on Sunday.

Hunter Greene ($9,900) is another starter who carries a lofty ceiling when he takes the mound, and he draws the Atlanta Braves to begin the week. Over the last 30 days, the Braves boast the fifth-worst wOBA (.288), fourth-worst wRC+ (83), and fourth-highest strikeout rate (25.8%) against right-handed pitching. Greene has posted 46-plus FanDuel points in three of his last five starts.

Others to Consider

  • Tanner Houck ($10,200 at COL) - Despite pitching at Coors Field, Houck does a fantastic job keeping the ball on the ground with career-best marks in groundball rate (55.8%) and flyball rate (24.4%) this season. There is also some strikeout upside for Houck as the Colorado Rockies have the second-highest strikeout rate (27.3%) to right-handed pitchers in the last 30 days.
  • Spencer Arrighetti ($7,600 at OAK) - Figures to be a popular salary-saving option with the Oakland Athletics logging the second-highest strikeout rate (26.3%) against right-handed pitching this year. A chalky Arrighetti could come with a risk as the A's are sporting the third-best wOBA (.387), third-best wRC+ (158), and fourth-best ISO (.262) against righties over the last 14 days.

Stacks to Target

  • Boston Red Sox (5.52 implied total) -- Are facing Austin Gomber, who ranks in the 19th percentile in xERA (4.78), 11th percentile in xBA (.277), 8th percentile in strikeout rate (16.1%), and 15th percentile in barrel rate (9.8%). Gomber has surrendered three-plus earned runs in seven of his last eight outings, and Colorado's bullpen has the worst SIERA (4.41), second-worst xFIP (4.54), and worst WHIP (1.59).
  • Houston Astros (4.59) -- Should be fairly popular with Hogan Harris on the mound for the Athletics. Aside from Harris sitting in the 3rd percentile in xERA (5.78), 7th percentile in xBA (.282), 12th percentile in strikeout rate (17.0%), and 28th percentile in barrel rate (8.9%), the Astros have the lowest strikeout rate (17.4%), 12th-best wRC+ (108), and 12th-best ISO (.157) against lefties.
  • Milwaukee Brewers (4.27) -- Javier Assad has struggled mightily in recent starts, allowing three-plus earned runs in back-to-back starts while combining for zero Ks during that span. Even though the Brewers don't have gaudy numbers versus righties recently, they've scored five-plus runs in four straight games, and this is a prime get-right spot.
  • Oakland Athletics (3.91) -- As mentioned above, the Athletics have been raking recently despite still striking out at a decent clip. Arrighetti can get himself in trouble at times with a 12.0% walk rate and 7.6% barrel rate -- to go along with an inflated 1.60 WHIP. While the Oakland Coliseum is a pitcher-friendly venue, winds are blowing out on Monday, making this an intriguing game to stack.
