Daily Strikeout Leader: Eyeing Some Longer Shots
Each day on FanDuel Sportsbook, there is no shortage of MLB odds to sift through, and you're likely familiar with a lot of them. That includes strikeout props, which are entertaining because they add importance to each pitch.
FanDuel Sportsbook has cranked that up a few notches with its daily strikeout leader market. Not only do you need your guys to rack up Ks -- you need them to get more punchouts than any of the day's other starting pitchers.
Here are today's odds in that market.
By George
Of the four pitchers with odds shorter than +1000, George Kirby (+550) is the one I'm most into.
Kirby isn't usually a high-strikeout guy, but he gets a lift in the K department tonight thanks to a clash with the Oakland Athletics. The A's have been miserable offensively all year, and their active roster owns the eighth-highest strikeout rate (24.2%) against right-handers along with the worst wOBA (.296) in the split.
Kirby's lack of walks -- 2.3% walk rate for the season -- helps him get deep into games, and he's punched out at least seven in four of his past six outings.
The Seattle Mariners' hurler is a deserving favorite, but I have my eye on some of the longer shots.
It's a Cole, Cole World
Cole Ragans (+1600) has been legitimately awesome since coming to the Kansas City Royals, and he's my favorite bet tonight.
In 34 2/3 innings with KC, Ragans has posted a 3.05 SIERA, 33.3% strikeout rate and 15.3% swinging-strike rate.
While it's fair to question if he can keep being this good, Ragans shouldn't be listed at +1600, especially in a matchup with a Pittsburgh Pirates squad whose active roster carries the sixth-highest K rate (24.8%) against lefties.
Gavin' a Good Time
Gavin Williams (+1100) isn't as much of a screaming value as Ragans, but he checks some boxes, too.
Williams has a sweet matchup versus the Minnesota Twins, a team whose active roster has the highest strikeout rate (28.5%) in baseball versus right-handers.
Williams has the swing-and-miss stuff to take advantage. A rookie, Williams produced a 33.3% strikeout rate and 15.4% swinging-strike rate at Triple-A this year, and he's got a 25.3% K rate and 13.1% swinging-strike rate over his first 64 MLB frames.
