Daily Strikeout Leader: 4 Pitchers Are Clear of the Pack on Tuesday

Subscribe to our newsletter

Each day on FanDuel Sportsbook, there is no shortage of MLB odds to sift through, and you're likely familiar with a lot of them. That includes strikeout props, which are entertaining because they add importance to each pitch.

FanDuel Sportsbook has cranked that up a few notches with its daily strikeout leader market. Not only do you need your guys to rack up Ks -- you need them to get more punchouts than any of the day's other starting pitchers.

Here are today's odds in that market along with some key strikeout numbers -- including strikeouts per start (K/Start), strikeout rate (K%) and called-strike-plus-whiff rate (CSW%) -- and a look at some of my favorite picks.

The Top Tier

We have a four-player upper-echelon in this market, and while Corbin Burnes and Pablo Lopez are capable of posting big K numbers every time out, I am more drawn to the two favorites: Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow

Snell (+350) is a deserving favorite. He has the stuff and the matchup (Pittsburgh Pirates) to go wild today. Long a streaky guy, Snell has been dialed in over his past eight starts, recording a 40.7% strikeout rate and 18.7% swinging-strike rate in that span. That's led to 9.2 Ks per start during that stretch.

Glasnow (+370) is awfully appealing, too, and he also has a fairly solid matchup (Miami Marlins). Glasnow owns a 34.9% strikeout rate and 18.9% swinging-strike rate across 54 2/3 innings this season. Whew. Miami, though, does a nice job avoiding punchouts, as they sport the ninth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handers (21.7%).

Dart Throws

The odds fall off a cliff once you get past the top four, with no one else shorter than +2000. I think you can make a "Hey, it's possible, right?" case for three guys -- Andrew Abbott, Eduardo Rodriguez and Alex Cobb.

E-Rod (+2000) has the ability to miss bats, putting up a 26.8% strikeout rate and 11.2% swinging-strike rate, and the Los Angeles Angels carry the 11th-highest strikeout rate versus lefties (23.5%). Rodriguez has cranked it up a notch of late, striking out 31.3% of batters over his previous five starts. For +2000, I'm interested.

Abbott has flashed big-time strikeout upside, punching out at least 10 in two of his nine starts. Working against him is that he's taking on the Milwaukee Brewers, a team he's somehow faced three times already. That familiarity usually benefits the offense, and Abbott has only nine total Ks across his last two starts versus the Brew Crew. But if the rookie lefty is on, he could make some noise.

Cobb gets the dream matchup as he faces the Oakland Athletics. Oakland has the third-highest strikeout rate against righties (25.2%) with the second-worst wOBA in the split (.288), giving Cobb a chance to do some work. Cobb has registered a single-game strikeout rate of at least 28.0% in 6 of his 18 starts, so there's some upside here. The main issue for him is innings as he's completed six frames just twice over his last six appearances.
