Cowboys Extend Cornerback Trevon Diggs With a 5-Year Deal
The Dallas Cowboys announced Tuesday afternoon that they signed cornerback Trevon Diggs to a 5-year extension worth up to $97 million. The contract keeps Diggs, a vital member of the Cowboys' electric defense, in Dallas through the 2029 season.
The #Cowboys and rising star CB Trevon Diggs have agreed to terms on a 5-year contract extension worth $97M as he becomes one of the highest paid CBs in the NFL, sources say. He gets a max value of $104M.

A Bonified Ball-Hawk
Diggs entered the NFL as the 51st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The second-rounder had a decent rookie season as part of Dallas' then-struggling defense, and his second-year breakout helped turn Dallas into one of the league's best defensive units.
In that second season, the playmaking Diggs snagged a league-leading 11 interceptions, which he returned for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns. His incredible performance that year earned him first-team AP All-NFL honors along with the first of his two career Pro Bowl appearances.
Diggs tallied three interceptions in each of his other two seasons, meaning he has racked up 17 picks through his first three campaigns. Since 2000, only four other defensive backs have bested Diggs' first-three-years total of 17, putting him in rare company alongside legends like Ed Reed, Richard Sherman, and Marcus Peters.
Dallas Cowboys Betting Odds
Locking down Diggs should help the Cowboys' D stay among the league's elites for the foreseeable future. With Dak Prescott guiding the offense and Micah Parsons and Diggs spearheading the defense, the Cowboys should be one of the NFL's better teams in 2023.
Per the Super Bowl odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, Dallas is +1400 to win it all, a number that ranks sixth-best. They have the third-best odds among NFC teams.
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, one of the NFC squads with shorter Super Bowl odds is in their own division as the Philadelphia Eagles are +800 (second-best) to win the title. As such, Dallas is +175 to win the NFC East -- a good bit behind Philly's odds of -115. Dallas' +175 odds are the shortest for any team with the second-best odds in its division.
Individually, Diggs is considered a longshot to win Defensive Player of the Year, coming in at +15000. Cornerbacks have been at a disadvantage compared to other positions in the DPOY race in recent years, with Stephon Gilmore (2019) and Charles Woodson (2009) being the only CBs to take home the honors since 2000.
