College Football Win Total Betting: How Many Games Will North Carolina State Win in 2024?

We normally have to wait until the summer to place bets on college football win totals -- not this year.

The college football win totals at FanDuel Sportsbook are already up, giving us a chance to bet on college football right now.

The ACC has a handful of talented programs in college football, with teams like the Florida State Seminoles, Clemson Tigers, and North Carolina Tar Heels generating the most buzz in recent years. One team in the ACC that has hovered around 10 wins in recent seasons is the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Both Clemson and Florida State are tied for the shortest ACC Championship Game winner odds at +280 ahead of the 2024 season. With North Carolina set to lose Drake Maye via the 2024 NFL Draft, could North Carolina State -- who has the fifth-shortest odds (+1300) to win the conference title game -- usurp their state rivals next season?

Following a quarterback change by way of the transfer portal, the Wolfpack are an interesting team to discuss before college football kicks off again later in the year.

How many games will North Carolina State win in the regular season in 2024? Let's take a look.

Why North Carolina State Could Win Over 8.5 Games

North Carolina State produced a 9-4 record during the 2023 season, ending their solid campaign with a 28-19 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. The Wolfpack have earned a bowl-game bid in back-to-back years under head coach Dave Doeren.

Since registering a 3-9 record in Doeren's first year coaching the team in 2013, NC State has won nine-plus games in four of the last 10 seasons -- including nine-plus wins in two of the last three. To show how much progress the Wolfpack have made, they've appeared in the AP Top 25 college football rankings in six of the last seven years.

After NC State landed transfer quarterback Brennan Armstrong in 2023, expectations were relatively high. Unfortunately, Armstrong finished with only 1,785 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions before being benched late in the season in favor of MJ Morris.

Even with Armstrong struggling from under center, the Wolfpack still won nine games and managed to average 26.1 points per game. Those numbers are expected to rise with quarterback Grayson McCall transferring to NC State from the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Before being limited to seven games last season, McCall had three straight campaigns of throwing for 2,400-plus yards, 24-plus touchdowns, and fewer than four interceptions at Coastal Carolina. Losing Armstrong means NC State is losing its leading rusher from a season ago, but the Wolfpack also got Jordan Waters in the transfer portal. He rushed for 819 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023 for the Duke Blue Devils.

Getting better production at quarterback and running back to pair with a defense that surrendered the 24th-fewest points per game (20.77) last year could make North Carolina State a much-improved team in 2024. Despite the college football playoff expansion beginning next season, the Wolfpack are still considered longshots at +25000 odds to win the college football National Championship.

Why North Carolina State Could Win Under 8.5 Games

Making a change at quarterback doesn't guaranteed improved success -- as the Wolfpack learned in 2023 with Armstrong. McCall played in only seven games for the Chanticleers last season before suffering a head injury that kept him sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

The sixth-year quarterback logged only 1,919 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, and six interception in his seven outings. When McCall takes the field for NC State, it's not a given that he will be able to perform as well as he did in his previous seasons at Coastal Carolina.

Even though the transfer-portal addition of Waters will help, NC State's rushing attack was inconsistent during the 2023 season. The leading rusher for the Wolfpack outside of Armstrong -- who had 665 rushing yards -- was Delbert Mimms with a mere 282 yards on 96 carries.

Evidenced by Florida State having the ninth-shortest odds (+2500) and Clemson having the 12th-shortest (+3000) odds to win the college football National Championship, the ACC is expected to be ultra-competitive in 2024. Since Doeren became the head coach at NC State in 2013, the Wolfpack have won five-plus conference games in only five of his 11 seasons at the helm.

Looking at the 2024 schedule for North Carolina State, it will have to travel to face Clemson and North Carolina on the road in hostile environments while also squaring off against the Tennessee Volunteers at a neutral site early in the season. With the ACC expected to have a few contenders in 2024, it remains to be seen how the Wolfpack respond to a tough league.
