Saturday’s Best College Football Picks and Predictions

Indiana-Michigan Under 41.5 (-114)

Indiana at Michigan, Noon ET

Total Points

Under
Oct 24 4:00pm UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

This matchup features two of the better defenses in the country, making the under appealing even at a relatively modest number. Indiana is allowing only 12.9 points and 270.6 total yards per game, including just 75.4 rushing yards per contest.

Michigan has been similarly dominant defensively, surrendering 16.2 points and 256.5 yards per game. The Wolverines are allowing only 166.8 passing yards and 89.7 rushing yards per contest.

Maybe the biggest reason to like the under is Michigan's offense, which is expected to have Tommy Carr making his first start. The Wolverines are averaging only 313.3 total yards and 22.7 points per game while producing just 165.7 yards per game through the air. Indiana's defense should make sustained drives difficult, while Michigan's defense is good enough to keep the Hoosiers from turning this into a shootout.

BYU -6.5 (-115)

BYU at UCF, 3:30 p.m. ET

Spread

BYU
Oct 24 7:30pm UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

BYU has been one of the most dependable teams in the country this season, entering Saturday 6-0 both straight up and against the spread. The Cougars are scoring 33.5 points per game while allowing only 15.2, and their defense ranks among the nation's better units at 274.7 yards allowed per game.

The run defense could be particularly important against UCF. BYU is surrendering only 86.2 rushing yards per game, which could force a Knights offense averaging just 192.7 passing yards per game to have to go to the air.

UCF has already suffered double-digit losses to Houston and Oklahoma State, although they were in both games for most of the contest, while BYU has taken down TCU, Iowa State, and Notre Dame during its unbeaten start.

Getting the Cougars below a touchdown is appealing given their defensive advantage and consistent ability to win close conference games.

Texas -3.5 (-102)

Ole Miss at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ET

Spread

Texas
Oct 24 11:30pm UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

Despite consecutive losses for UT, I still like Texas in this spot because of the matchup between its defense and the explosive Ole Miss offense.

The Longhorns are allowing only 272.5 total yards and 17.8 points per game. They've been especially difficult to throw against, surrendering just 166.2 passing yards per contest, which matters against an Ole Miss offense producing 290.7 passing yards and 37.5 points per game.

Texas should also have opportunities on the other side of the ball — even if their offense is in a funk. Ole Miss is giving up 390.0 total yards per game, including 236.5 through the air and 153.5 on the ground. The Rebels are allowing opponents to convert 44.0% of their third downs, as well.

Texas hasn't been a good ATS team this season (1-5 ATS), but this is a favorable bounce-back spot at home. The Longhorns’ defense gives Texas a way to slow down Ole Miss, and the Rebels' defensive issues should provide Texas with enough scoring opportunities to win by more than a field goal.

Utah -6.5 (-110)

Houston at Utah, 10:15 p.m. ET

Spread

Utah
Oct 25 2:15am UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

Utah has combined high-level offense with one of the nation's better defenses during its 6-0 start. The Utes are averaging 40.2 points and 486.5 total yards per game while surrendering just 14.8 points and 303.2 yards.

They're also 5-1 against the spread, and the matchup gives their offense a path to another productive night. Houston is allowing 265.0 passing yards per game, ranking near the bottom of the FBS in that category, while Utah is generating 266.3 passing yards per contest.

Houston's offense is plenty dangerous, averaging 39.3 points and 485.1 yards per game, so this isn't a bet based on the Cougars being overmatched offensively. The difference is Utah's ability to defend both phases. The Utes are allowing only 88.7 rushing yards per game, and they've held four of their six opponents to 17 points or fewer.

With Utah at home and possessing the stronger overall defense, I like the Utes to eventually pull away and cover a number that's still below a touchdown.

College Football Betting FAQ
