College Basketball Best Bets
Colorado Buffaloes at Miami (FL) Hurricanes
Buffaloes ML (-104)
This isn't the easiest spot for Tad Boyle's Buffaloes, but they do seem like the better team coming in as a slight underdog. Moreover, they're being largely ignored with 89% of tickets coming in on Miami.
Bart Torvik rates CU as the 24th-best team in the country, and the Hurricanes (38th) lag behind quite a bit. At KenPom, the Buffs (32nd) also outpace the Canes (39th) with both teams overrated compared to BT.
Miami's defense is their issue, ranking 215th in Division I within two-point FG% allowed and 285th in three-point percentage (3P%) allowed. CU doesn't shoot many threes (29.5% of their shots), or they might be a road favorite.
Wooga Poplar and the Canes play a fun brand of basketball, but CU's 25th-ranked overall defense (per Bart Torvik) should win out on the road.
Michigan State Spartans at Nebraska Cornhuskers
Cornhuskers +3.5 (-115)
If you aren't sure about the Cornhuskers' spread in this spot, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo certainly didn't seem to love his teams chances when asked about this one. He said they'll need a perfect game against Nebraska.
KenPom is a bit more optimistic. It ranks MSU as the 28th-best team in the country, and Nebraska (68th) lags behind. Bart Torvik has Sparty at 20th, and the Huskers sit just 42nd overall. Yet, BT has the Cornhuskers positioned as a 1.1-point favorite in this matchup. Why?
Well, this is MSU's first road game, Michigan State profiles to encounter issues on the road this year. They're shooting just 27.5% from deep overall having yet to play an away contest, and those numbers typically don't improve outside of your gym.
In addition to Bart Torvik favoring Nebraska here, numberFire's model also believes the Huskers cover 58.1% of the time in this one. Sparty might be on upset alert.
