The college basketball season always provides a flurry of twists and turns that few saw coming -- especially when March Madness comes around. This can make college basketball one of the most challenging sports to bet on.

Fortunately, we have plenty of tools available that can aid our chances of taking the most favorable college basketball bets. Bart Torvik and KenPom are excellent sources that give insights into team-level efficiency, and Sports Reference provides a wide range of useful team stats, as well.

Let's check out FanDuel Sportsbook's college basketball odds and select some of the best bets of the day by utilizing the mentioned tools.

College Basketball Best Bets

Holy Cross at Boston College

Boston College -21.5 (-118)

The Holy Cross Crusaders (2-7) will make a short trek to Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles (6-3). Even though BC has yet to win a game by 20-plus and their average margin of victory sits at a more modest 11.8 points, I think they will cover in tonight's game.

The Crusaders rank 352nd on KenPom, ahead of just 11 teams. Their 303rd schedule-adjusted offensive rank is hardly a highlight and is made up of more middle-of-the-pack shooting percentage numbers -- they come in with the 189th-best three-point percentage (3P%) and 252nd-best field-goal percentage.

Holy Cross is most vulnerable on defense, which is where I am seeing glimpses of blowout potential. With their 360th-ranked schedule-adjusted defense, Holy Cross should have a tough time stopping Boston College's 102nd-ranked offense.

In a game against St. John's 36th-ranked offense, the Crusaders were pummeled by 46 points. While St. John's is a better team than the Eagles, which causes concern for comparison, it does provide a nice example of the extent to which the Crusaders' D can falter.

But perhaps we can find a better comparison with an early-season Holy Cross-Winthrop matchup. Winthrop ranks 161st, with an 89th-ranked offense and 280th-ranked defense. They were able to defeat the Crusaders by a whopping 38 points, which should be a good sign for Boston College fans -- BC ranks 104th overall (102nd-ranked offense and 107th-ranked defense).

Quinten Post is the most notable member of the Eagles. He is averaging 20.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Post's biggest game this season (31 points) correlated with Boston College's most lopsided win this season (19-point victory), and it won't be easy for Holy Cross to silence him tonight. Post is rocking with a 48.5% 3P%, and the Crusaders allow the 11th-highest 3P%.

This should not only help Post get going but also could be grounds for regression from players like Jaeden Zackery and Prince Aligbe, who are shooting the three-ball at a much lower clip than they did last season.

Both Holy Cross and Boston College are fresh off of matchups with the Central Connecticut Blue Devils. Holy Cross lost to them by 11 points, while Boston College won the matchup by 14 points. I expect the Eagles to grab their first 20-plus point win tonight and cover against this weak Holy Cross defense.

Saint Peter's at Duquesne

Saint Peter's +14.5 (-112)

We've got a short college basketball slate tonight, but I think it's worth targeting the Saint Peter's Peacocks (3-4) to cover against the Duquesne Dukes (6-2).

Duquesne is point-blank the better team and should come out of this one with a victory. They rank 83rd overall on KenPom, while St. Peter's falls way behind at the 246th spot.

However, the Peacocks have proven an ability to keep games close. Save for a 31-point defeat against the 78th-ranked Rutgers, all of St. Peter's losses have been kept within 11 points or fewer. This includes games against 70th-ranked Seton Hall and 123rd-ranked UMass Lowell.

Even with their blowout loss at the hands of Rutgers, the Peacocks still have a fairly respectable 12.8-point average margin of loss.

Saint Peter's falters most on offense. They put up the 22nd-fewest points per game and are riding the three-point shot struggle bus, coming into tonight with a 29.5% 3P%.

Luckily for them, Duquesne isn't a lockdown defensive team. They rank 189th in 3P% allowed to opposing teams and have a 127th-ranked schedule-adjusted defense, which is worse than St. Peter's 120th-ranked D.

Despite two of their wins coming against teams that rank far below St. Peter's, the Dukes' average margin of victory stands at a moderate 11.3 points, which is right around where I think this game will end up tonight.
