Bronny James Betting Props: LeBron Assist Odds, First Basket Market, and More

With the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James, son of LeBron James.

For various reasons, the pick is making waves.

Expectations for James vary widely, but the NBA betting odds at FanDuel Sportsbook now feature some Bronny James props ahead of his rookie season.

Let's take a look at them below.

Free Throw+500

The most likely outcome here -- based on the odds -- are for Bronny to score first via layup (+200), followed by making a three-pointer (+220).

Last season at USC, James attempted 112 field goals (60 of them being three-point attempts). That's a 53.6% three-point attempt rate, well above the NCAA average of 37.4%. However, James shot just 26.7% from beyond the arc.

Still, that's a pretty heavy shooter's mentality.

Via Hoop-Math, 25.0% of James' shots came at the rim, and he also had a 21.4% shot rate on shots classified as two-point jumpers.

James attempted 34 free throws (for a free throw attempt rate of 30.4%, down from the NCAA average of 32.7%). He shot 67.6% on his 34 attempts from the stripe.

Given just how many threes he put up, it wouldn't be surprising to see him carry that into the NBA.

Let's take a look at James' game-by-game peaks at USC from last season.

While we need to scale for an uptick in defense at the next level, minutes can also go up in the NBA -- especially when injuries lead to shortened rotations.

Depending on where he winds up in the rotation, he could see numerous games with 30-plus minutes.

James played 30 minutes only once at USC and had more games under 20 minutes (15) than over 20 minutes (10 games).

James made two triples three times -- but never more than that in a matchup.

His season-high in points was 15 (in only 20 minutes against Oregon State) in late December. He had two other double-digit outputs (11 against Arizona and 10 against California).

Despite averaging only 2.1 assists per game on the full season, Bronny did have four games from last season with at least five assists.

Once again, indications are that he should fire up a lot of threes, so those are the markets that deserve a closer look here.

A fascinating -- but tricky -- market to figure out is whether Bronny and LeBron will link up on Bronny's first field goal or first assist.

Bronny should spend most of his early minutes off the bench and not necessarily alongside the starters.

However, it's also hard to envision that he first checks in with LeBron on the bench.

LeBron ranked 10th in potential assists last season (and 9th on a per-game basis). He generates plenty of opportunities for teammates.

Also of note, 43.5% of LeBron's two-point field goals came off of assists last season. That's the third-highest rate of his career and the highest excluding his first two seasons in the league.

And 68.5% of his three-pointers came off of assists, the highest since his rookie season.

A LeBron-Bronny hookup to kickstart his career does make a lot of sense, and there are plenty of reasons to think that it'll happen, including data trends and play-calling potential.
