The Toronto Maple Leafs' star has kicked off his season in a major way, nearing a number of accolades in the goal-scoring department. With 36 games left to go in the regular season for Toronto, the 26-year-old has plenty more to accomplish in that time.

Auston Matthews is a former Hart Trophy winner and has hit the 60-goal plateau once in his career. Can he aim even higher?

Through 45 games, Matthews has registered 39 goals and is on his way to destroying his output of 40 goals from a season ago. But the question with this bet is simple -- can Matthews reach 65?

With his current rate, he's scoring 0.87 goals per game this season. That puts him on track to score around 71 goals (71.34) over the 82-game season, giving him plenty of room to finish with 65-plus this year.

Matthews currently has an insane shooting percentage of 20.0%. He's taken the fourth-most shots in the NHL (195) for the year, giving him the capacity to reach this new milestone. Now, it won't be easy. The last player to pot 65-plus goals in a single season was Alex Ovechkin in 2008. Connor McDavid was close a year ago, scoring 64 in his Hart Trophy-winning campaign.

Based on how things have been going for Matthews, there's a reason for the odds (+110) being so short. As long as Matthews can stay healthy, 65-plus goals is certainly attainable.

Auston Matthews to Score 70+ Goals (+750)

The 70-goal plateau hasn't been touched in more than 30 years. Does Matthews have it in him to get there?

He's currently on track for 70.47 goals if he plays every game for the remainder of the campaign -- just above that mark. If Matthews can keep up his current rate along with the sky-high 20.0% shooting percentage, there's reason to believe he has a chance to get to 70 goals. It's a big "if," though, and that's what leaves the odds so high at +750.

The talented goalscorer is going to need every game to get close to that total, which is why it's best to be hesitant on this bet -- even with his track record. However, Matthews should come close as long as he plays the reminder of the games for the Maple Leafs.

Notably, Matthews missed one game earlier this year, and that could make all the difference with this one.

A true mountain to climb for Matthews.

The Maple Leafs' star has 39 goals in 45 games. He will need to score 11 goals over the next five games to get to 50 goals in 50 games. The most goals Matthews has scored in a five-game span this season is nine. It's not impossible, of course, but it's hard to believe that Matthews can accomplish such a feat.

There's a reason this is set at +20000.
