5 Games to Watch This Weekend: Kansas, UConn Tangle in Showdown

Who’s ready for a great weekend?

Check below for our list of five games to watch this weekend in college basketball.

In no particular order:

Houston at Xavier (Friday)

Four days after Sean Miller's team lost a buy game at home to Oakland, Xavier will attempt to upend one of the most consistent brands in the sport. Xavier's young nucleus will be pushed unlike it's been pushed so far this season. We'll find out a lot about the Musketeers after this game.

UConn at Kansas (Friday)

The most anticipated non-conference game of the 2023-24 season? It certainly feels like it. UConn has been flawless to start the year despite a knee injury to five-star freshman Stephon Castle while Kansas suffered a loss against Marquette last week in Hawaii and possesses major questions about its depth.

While most of the attention in this game will be centered on the individual matchup in the middle between the Huskies' Donovan Clingan and the Jayhawks' Hunter Dickinson, keep an eye on Samson Johnson. The 6-10 junior is the best backup center in the sport and is currently averaging 7.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 19.1 minutes.

Purdue at Northwestern (Friday)

The Wildcats' win over the Boilers last season in Evanston was a turning point in their season. Replicating that again on Friday would take a monumental effort and some timely three-point accuracy. Northwestern is currently shooting just 32 percent from long distance as a team.

Gonzaga vs. USC (Saturday)

Las Vegas will play host to this fascinating neutral court showdown between two of the best brands on the West Coast. Gonzaga's quartet of Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, Anton Watson, and Graham Ike has aided the transition post-Drew Timme while USC has had health issues for the majority of the first month. The point guard matchup between Nembhard and five-star freshman Isaiah Collier will be worth the price of admission.

Creighton at Nebraska (Sunday)

The biggest game of the Fred Hoiberg era? You better believe it. The Huskers are off to a 7-0 start and can take a step toward national relevance with a win against the Bluejays. Pinnacle Bank Arena should be on fire for this in-state clash.
