4 FanDuel NFL Studs to Target in Week 16
Hitting on high-salary players is the first step to having success in daily fantasy football on FanDuel.
These players take up the biggest chunk of your salary cap, and they need to deliver quality performances for your lineup to reach its ceiling.
Here are four studs to target on this week's main slate.
All betting odds come from the NFL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Justin Fields, QB, Chicago Bears
FanDuel Salary: ($8,300)
Due to the NFL having so many games spread across four days, the main slate on Christmas Eve has us rocking with Justin Fields as our stud quarterback.
Fields has been a great option after getting over his rocky start to the season and injuries. On the year, he's averaging 18.8 FanDuel points per game, but if you remove the first three weeks, his average is up to 20.3 FanDuel points since. The addition of D.J. Moore has made a difference for him and his overall game, allowing his passing numbers to catch up with what he's done with his legs.
The good news ahead of Sunday is that over his last six games, Fields has rushed for 50 or more yards four times. He has watched his passing numbers settle around his season average in that time (197.6 passing yards), but when you're adding the points on the ground, it makes up for it and then some.
Now, it's worth noting that both Dak Prescott and Tua Tagovailoa are on this main slate. But I'm running with Fields thanks to his matchup more than anything else.
The Arizona Cardinals are on their way to the Windy City to take on these Chicago Bears. A team like the Cardinals, who play indoors in warm Glendale, Arizona, will have to play in a cool Soldier Field on Sunday. As with any matchup like this, it's best to take advantage of these teams playing in different conditions.
Arizona is allowing 19.1 FanDuel points per game to the quarterback position, the seventh-most in the NFL. All signs point to a big game for Fields and company with the shaky Cardinals coming in.
numberFire's model is all in on Fields this weekend, projecting him for 21.1 FanDuel points, the most of any player on the main slate.
Rachaad White, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
FanDuel Salary: ($7,700)
If Christian McCaffrey wasn't as dominant as he's been over the last few seasons, Rachaad White would be getting talked up far more. The good news is that White is in the driver's seat for a big game this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This very well may be the perfect game for the Buccaneers' running back to be the top pick at his position due to the Jaguars' inability to stop pass-catching running backs. Jacksonville is allowing only 18.5 FanDuel points to running backs, ranking them around the average. However, they're giving up 6.71 receptions and 46.7 receiving yards per game to running backs, perfect for what White has been able to do all season long.
White has a 12.2% target market share, averaging 3.6 receptions and 33.5 receiving yards. His overall numbers have exploded in recent weeks, as his rushing finally caught up with the rest of his output. Since Week 9, White has put together 18.4 FanDuel points per game while scoring seven touchdowns over that span.
On a Buccaneers team that is fighting for the NFC South, White has become the focal point of the offense, and that shouldn't be changing over the weekend by any stretch.
White is projected to finish with 14.9 FanDuel points, per numberFire.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions
FanDuel Salary: ($8,600)
Amon-Ra St. Brown got back on track last week as part of Jared Goff's five-touchdown performance and shouldn't be slowing down now.
St. Brown has been an integral part of the Detroit Lions and their offensive success all season long. His overall numbers include 94 receptions, 1,175 yards, and 7 touchdowns. As Goff's favorite target, he has a ridiculous 30.0% target share, 31.8% air yards share, and 38.5% red zone target share.
We should not only feel comfortable with him in DFS lineups, but we should expect a big outing, too.
Detroit is well on their way to clinching the NFC North and will do so with a win over the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. Somehow, this will be the first time these two division rivals meet this year, as they're set to face off once more in Week 18.
The Vikings haven't been a team that stops top wideouts, allowing 29.2 FanDuel points per week to opposing receivers. Tee Higgins finished with 4 receptions for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns just last week, making St. Brown's prospects all the more encouraging.
numberFire's model projects St. Brown to finish with 14.9 FanDuel points on Sunday.
Trey McBride, TE, Arizona Cardinals
FanDuel Salary: ($7,000)
It's time we consider Trey McBride a stud and nothing less.
The Arizona Cardinals' tight end has become a budding star this year, becoming the top target on his team as the season has gone on.
Once Zach Ertz went down with an injury, it was time for McBride to take over on the field. Since Week 8 -- the first week without Ertz -- McBride has averaged 13.1 FanDuel points.. That's more than any other tight end except Sam LaPorta, who is coming off a three-touchdown game just a week ago.
Over the seven games since taking over as the team's starter, McBride is recording 7.3 receptions on 9.1 targets for 77.4 receiving yards per game. It's been an outstanding showing for him.
With Kyler Murray under center, which started in Week 10, McBride has a team-leading 27.3% target share and 29.4% red zone share. That should keep up when the Cardinals face the Bears this weekend.
Chicago has been one of the worst teams against the tight end position this season. They're letting up 10.6 FanDuel points weekly, creating massive intrigue for what McBride should be able to do come Sunday afternoon.
numberFire's model projects the Cardinals' tight end to finish with 11.0 FanDuel points. If all goes right, McBride could provide your DFS lineups with an early Christmas miracle.
