Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Owen Tippett To Score a Goal (+170)

The central theme of today's piece is that of regression, positive regression to be exact.

All three of the following players are high-volume shot-takers, who haven't scored in several games. They all play prominent offensive roles but haven't gotten the puck luck to go their way and find the back of the net.

We'll start with Owen Tippett of the Philadelphia Flyers, who have a 3.42 implied goal total against the San Jose Sharks. Over the last two weeks, the Sharks have allowed a whopping 3.94 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-worst in the league.

Over his last five games, Tippett has just a single goal and 17 shots on goal, and over his last nine games, he has just that one goal and 35 shots on goal. This is rather surprising since he has a solid 22 goals on the season, while seeing time on the second forward line and the second power-play unit.

If there's any matchup for Tippett to finally pick up a goal, it's this one versus the Sharks.

Mikko Rantanen To Score a Goal (+125)

Next up, let's turn to Mikko Rantanen for a goal tonight.

The Colorado Avalanche have 3.62 implied goal total and are set to take on the Calgary Flames, who have been a disaster as of late. For as bad as the Sharks are, the Flames top them by allowing 4.21 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations over the last two weeks, which is the worst in the NHL.

The Flames are also allowing the ninth-most (63.98) Total Shot Attempts in the same situations over the last two weeks, making this the ideal matchup for Rantanen.

Over the last five games, Rantanen has no goals but 21 shots on goal, 15 of which have come in the last two games. He is firing the puck left, right, and center, but simply cannot score a goal, something he's done 31 times this season.

In these same two weeks, the Avs are scoring a staggering 3.85 Goals and producing 67.25 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, both of which are the third-best in the league.

Their offense is flying right now and Rantanen simply hasn't been involved but this soft matchup should help him right the ship tonight.

Cole Caufield To Score To a Goal (+125)

Finally, we go to Cole Caufield, who has no goals over his last 10 games.

Going 10 games without a goal is a bit shocking for Caufield, who has the eighth-most (244) shots on goal in the entire league. This isn't just some random player who isn't scoring, Caufield is the primary shooter -- by a wide margin -- for the Montreal Canadiens.

Caufield leads the team with 244 shots on goal and the next player sits at 155 shots on goal. He's legitimately on a different level compared to his teammates but isn't able to put one past opposing goalies.

He comes in with 42 shots on goal over his last 10 games, while seeing time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit.

Tonight, the Habs have a 3.31 implied goal total against the Columbus Blue Jackets, in what could be a sloppy game. Both teams are out of the playoff race and over the last two weeks, both sit in the bottom 13 of the league for the most Goals Allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

Positive regression is due for all of these skates and Caufield is no different.
