3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Wednesday 6/21/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS. Oftentimes, filling out a lineup with quality players on the back end is the difference between cashing and going home empty-handed.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for Wednesday's main slate. Also, happy first day of summer! Enjoy the extended daylight.

Martin Perez, SP, Texas Rangers ($8,100)

Wednesday offers a seven-game main slate, and I am looking at Martin Perez of the Texas Rangers for starting pitching value.

Perez is scheduled to face the Chicago White Sox, who currently sit in fourth place in the sluggish AL Central. The Chi-Sox have struggled mightily at the plate in 2023. With a .683 OPS, they have the sixth-worst OPS in Major League Baseball. Given that Texas is third-best (.798) in that same category, Perez already is a decent bet to pick up a win.

With Perez starting on Wednesday, numberFire projects Chicago's run total at 4.01. That leaves the White Sox in the bottom-third of all teams in action tonight. numberFire's model also has Perez producing 27.9 FanDuel points, giving the pitcher a value score (points per $1,000) of 3.44.

One of Perez' best traits is his ability to force ground balls. Grounder accounts for 40.9% of balls in play against him. That can lead to double plays and efficient innings on the mound. His ground-ball rate contributes to stranding runners on base. Perez's left-on-base rate is impressive at 74.9%.

Showing a reasonable FanDuel salary of $8,100, Perez can provide value today on the mound.

Brandon Drury, 1B/2B, Los Angeles Angels ($3,100)

Playing in Southern California's beloved "Freeway Series," Brandon Drury will be looking to continue his hot hitting tonight. Over the Los Angeles Angels' past six games, Drury has logged multiple hits five times. He also has collected seven RBI and two home runs during that span.

Tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Drury will have a shot to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Worth mentioning -- as of early Wednesday afternoon, the Boys in Blue have yet to officially name a starting pitcher. For the Halos, Shohei Ohtani will be on the hill.

Drury typically receives the benefit of batting cleanup for the Angels, which puts him behind superstars Ohtani and Mike Trout. That will naturally provide Drury with more favorable hitting situations.

In the past week, Drury has showcased a staggering OPS of 1.300. The game will be played at Anaheim's Angel Stadium tonight, where Drury is a bit better as opposed to on the road. In 2023, Drury carries a .612 slugging percentage in home games versus .400 away from Orange County.

Drury is someone I want to keep rolling with while he's hot.

Giancarlo Stanton, OF, New York Yankees ($2,900)

Giancarlo Stanton and the New York Yankees are not having their best year. The right-handed slugger missed half of April and all of May with an ailing hamstring. Stanton finally rejoined the Bronx Bombers at the beginning of June. All of his action since returning has come at DH.

With a semi-wacky slate on Wednesday, Stanton feels like he has some value at $2,900 in a home date with the Seattle Mariners.

For the M's, Luis Castillo is the starting pitcher, so it's a tough matchup. However, Castillo is permitting a 39.8% fly-ball rate, something that could loom large for Stanton.

Given Stanton's tremendous power, he is always a threat to crush a homer. He carries a hard-hit rate of 40.6%, which can easily translate into extra bases for Stanton. He will be playing at home in Yankee Stadium, where the intimate confines are always in favor of the hitter.

Salaried at $2,900, Stanton's home-run potential makes him worth the risk on Wednesday, and he'll likely fly under the radar due to the matchup with Castillo.
