Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.
Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.
Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.
Dylan Cease, P, Chicago White Sox ($8,200)
Dylan Cease may not be as dominant this season as he was last season, but he still has good numbers and things working in his favor tonight.
Cease is sporting a 26.5% strikeout rate this season. He was able to get that above 30% in the two prior seasons, but this number is still above league average. He's due for some positive regression, too, as his 4.91 ERA is much higher than his 4.13 expected ERA (xERA).
The Chicago White Sox will play the Kansas City Royals tonight. KC has the fifth-lowest wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season and strike out 22.0% of the time.
At $8,200, Cease fits right into the middle range of pitchers on the slate but has more upside than most. According to numberFire's projections, he's the second-best value arm on Tuesday.
Evan Longoria, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,100)
While 37-year-old Evan Longoria definitely isn't the same player he used to be, he definitely can be rostered in lineups tonight.
Longoria has always been a good hitter with the platoon advantage in his career. Without the platoon it's a different story, but a .343 wOBA and .244 ISO against lefties show that he's still an effective hitter in some situations.
Tonight, he'll get to face one of the most hittable lefties in baseball. Kyle Freeland will take the mound for the Colorado Rockies.
Freeland does not look like a good pitcher in nearly any stat you can pull up. This isn't just because of Coors Field, either -- his road numbers are worse than his numbers at home. Against righties this season, he's allowed a stunning .386 wOBA and .245 ISO, too.
If Longoria gets a good lineup spot, he's a huge bargain for near-minimum salary.
Nolan Gorman, 2B, St. Louis Cardinals ($2,900)
Nolan Gorman is having a solid year in his first full MLB season, and he's been a lone bright spot for the last-place St. Louis Cardinals.
Gorman has a batted-ball profile that we like to target. His .334 wOBA isn't necessarily anything to write home about, but his expected wOBA (xwOBA) is .352. Gorman barrels the ball 15.6% of the time and hits fly balls 48.0% of the time. That is a recipe for home runs.
He'll face Mike Soroka, who's making his first big league appearance since July 21st. Soroka really struggled in his previous stint in the Majors, allowing a 5.51 xERA and seven home runs in 29.1 innings.
Gorman has the platoon advantage and has the potential to homer tonight for a salary that isn't too prohibitive.
