3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Tuesday 8/8/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Wade Miley, Pitcher, Milwaukee Brewers ($8,300)

Wade Miley is a veteran pitcher who has rarely inspired much excitement, but he's done well to stick around in the MLB until at least age 36. This season is more of the same in his first year back with the Milwaukee Brewers, but he's in an excellent spot tonight.

Miley looks good if you just glance at his 6-2 record and 3.01 ERA, but his advanced data isn't as pretty. He has a 4.76 expected ERA (xERA) and 4.85 SIERA. He also has a mediocre strikeout rate (17.5%).

We might not consider rostering Miley against most teams, but tonight's matchup against the Colorado Rockies is the perfect one for us to play him. Colorado has been totally dreadful against left-handed pitching this season. They have a horrible 56 wRC+ and a .276 wOBA while striking out a whopping 31.4% of the time.

Colorado has the second-lowest implied team total tonight at just 3.55 runs, and Miley should have at least a reasonable outing against them for an affordable salary.

Jake Bauers, 1B/OF, New York Yankees ($2,700)

There haven't been many positives for the New York Yankees of late, but Jake Bauers could be considered one of them. He has been a bright spot in a lineup that has struggled a lot of late.

Bauers has career bests in wOBA (.334) and wRC+ (114). He's actually underperforming his expected wOBA (xwOBA) of .374. He's been dangerous against right-handed pitching this season, holding a .281 ISO with the platoon advantage.

The Chicago White Sox will be sending a righty to the mound tonight with Touki Toussaint getting the start. Toussaint has struggled against lefties in his career, allowing a .357 wOBA against them.

Bauers should bat leadoff once again for the Yankees, who are implied to score 4.92 runs tonight. That makes him a nice play in stacks -- as well as a one-off play to fill out your lineups.

Tommy Pham, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,700)

Tommy Pham was acquired at the trade deadline by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are looking to sneak into a wild card spot. Pham is having a good season at age 35 and is set up for success tonight.

He's always been a good hitter against lefties, but that's even more true for Pham this season. He has a .354 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season along with a .265 ISO. He's provided upside with 10 home runs and 13 steals, making him valuable for fantasy, too.

The Diamondbacks are facing a good pitcher in Julio Urias, but he hasn't been as good this season as he was in the previous two. His xFIP is 4.31 and his SIERA is 4.11, and both of these numbers were below four in the previous two seasons. He's also allowing an above-average fly-ball rate (44.8%), and Pham hits fly balls at a 43.8% clip.

For just $2,700, Pham has the upside to be played in all lineup formats tonight.
